Thinesh Chandraratne – Chief Executive Officer

Thinesh Chandraratne has extensive experience in senior management and executive roles across multiple industries including healthcare, manufacturing, construction and retail having worked interstate as well as internationally.  After holding numerous management roles at Monash Health over a 10 year period, Thinesh initially commenced at Jessie McPherson Private Hospital in March 2015  as the Director Corporate Services and subsequently stepped into the role of Chief Executive Officer.

Thinesh holds an Advanced Certificate in Marketing (UK), a Diploma in Information Technology, is a Fellow of CPA Australia, CIMA (UK), AAT (UK) and also holds a Master’s in Professional Accounting. Thinesh has a strong commitment to innovation and productivity, with a keen focus on risk management, legislative compliance, organisational governance and partnering to deliver excellent outcomes.

Andy Bower

Andy Bower – Director Corporate Services

Andy Bower commenced as Director Corporate Services in August 2020 after a brief period as Interim Director Corporate Services from March 2020.

Andy has over 15 years’ experience working in financial leadership and executive roles in the private healthcare sector, successfully leading teams across Finance, Administration, Health Information and Supply in a variety of settings from not-for-profit to private equity owned organisations.

Andy is a Chartered Accountant and Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants (England & Wales), and has a Masters of Engineering.

Jennine Harbrow  – Director Clinical Services

Jennine Harbrow was appointed to the role of Director Clinical Services at Jessie McPherson Private Hospital in November 2019.

Jennine graduated as a registered nurse in 1983. During her career Jennine has worked in Coronary Care, medical and surgical areas at Prince Henry’s Hospital and Monash Health.

Jennine has held senior nursing roles over the past 20 years, including Coronary Care Nurse Manager; Operations Manager /Deputy Director of Nursing Dandenong; Director Hospital in the Community/Director of Nursing and Acting General Manager Casey and Cranbourne.

Jennine’s commitment to ensuring a safe and congenial workplace, in developing her team, and improving quality outcomes and the patient experience has been acknowledged by numerous Monash Health and Victorian Public Healthcare Awards over many years.

Jennine holds a Certificate in Coronary Care, a Graduate Diploma in Business, and a Masters of Management qualification.

Paul Cashin  – Director Medical Services

Paul Cashin was appointed to the role of Director, Medical Services at Jessie McPherson Private Hospital in January 2016.

Paul graduated from Monash University in 1984; he trained in General Surgery at the Repatriation General Hospital, Heidelberg, graduating in 1996. Having spent time in the United Kingdom, he returned to Australia to commence his Upper GI appointment at Monash Medical Centre in 1998.

Paul is currently the Service Director of General and Gastrointestinal Surgery across all Monash Health sites; he has been an active surgeon at Jessie McPherson Private Hospital for 25 years. He has particular interests in oesphago-gastric cancer, reflux disease, oesophageal motility disorders and advanced laparoscopic surgery. He is also a Clinical Associate Professor in Dept. of Surgery, Southern Clinical School at Monash University.

Paul acts as Medical Advisor to the Kitaya Holdings Board of Directors, and he participates in the Kitaya Board Quality Committee. He is also Chairman of the Medical Advisory Committee (MAC) at Jessie McPherson Private Hospital.

In his role as Director, Medical Services, Paul oversees medical governance and accreditation including areas such as patient care and quality outcomes, the patient experience, medical credentialing and scope of practice, research, new technologies and medical ethics.

Prof Julian Smith – Medical Director

Julian Smith was appointed as the first Medical Director at Monash Heart Private in early 2023.

Julian graduated in medicine from the University of Melbourne in 1981. His early post-graduate years were spent at the Royal Melbourne Hospital from where he obtained a Master of Surgery degree from the University of Melbourne and the Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in General Surgery. His Australian training in cardiothoracic surgery was carried out at the Royal Melbourne, Alfred and Royal Children’s Hospitals. After obtaining the FRACS in Cardiothoracic Surgery, he spent time at Stanford University in the USA and then Papworth Hospital in the UK for further training particularly in the field of transplantation. In early 1995, he returned to the Alfred Hospital as a cardiothoracic surgeon and Deputy Head of the Heart and Lung Transplant Service, positions he held until September 2001. Julian has over 21 years of practice as a cardiothoracic surgeon at Monash Health and Jessie McPherson Private Hospital.

Julian envisions the role of Medical Director at Monash Heart Private as providing medical governance, leadership and management to ensure that the hospital delivers the highest quality medical patient care within the established clinical governance framework
