Bio:
Dr Harsh Thakkar is an Interventional and General cardiologist with an expertise across the full spectrum of cardiovascular disease, including coronary artery disease, heart failure, valvular heart disease, preventive cardiology and cardiac risk assessment. He has a particular expertise in acute coronary syndrome, coronary physiology, cardiogenic shock and complex coronary interventions.
Harsh completed his undergraduate medical training in Mumbai, India, before relocating to Australia to undertake specialist medical training. He completed Advanced training in General and Acute Care Medicine at Eastern Health, Melbourne followed by advanced training in Cardiology at Royal Hobart Hospital, Royal Melbourne Hospital and MonashHeart, Monash Health.
Driven by a passion for coronary interventions, he pursued further subspeciality training in cardiac CT, coronary interventions, and structural heart disease at Royal Melbourne Hospital. He subsequently completed a dedicated Complex Coronary Intervention and CHIP (Complex High Risk Indicated Procedures) fellowship at St George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in London, training under internationally recognised leaders in the field. His fellowship focused on advanced and high-risk coronary intervention, advanced calcium modification and chronic total occlusion (CTO) PCI.
Harsh is currently undertaking a PhD through the Victorian Heart Institute, Victorian Heart Hospital and Monash University with a research focus on coronary physiology.
In addition to his clinical and research interests, Harsh is passionate about medical education and has held teaching appointments with both Monash University and the University of Tasmania.
Outside of medicine, he enjoys travelling and spending time with his young family and following cricket and soccer.
